A couple of years ago I started doing "Five Bits of Happiness" before I went to bed. Honestly it's been INSANELY good for me and I can't wait to share it with y'all because I truly know that it will make a ginormous difference in your day.
What is FIVE BITS??
FIVE BITS is a series of questions to ask yourself and reflect on each night before you go to bed. You can personalize the questions to what your needs are, or what you would like to focus on, but this is what I have been using for all these years:
What is an accomplishment today?
What is a moment of joy?
What is a tender mercy?
ONE compliment for yourself (this is always the toughest one).
ONE compliment to someone else.
What is a moment of joy?
What is a tender mercy?
ONE compliment for yourself (this is always the toughest one).
ONE compliment to someone else.
There are a couple of different ways to do this.
1: If you're with someone, share it with them! Sharing your experiences can help others recognize the good that has happened in their day as well. Doing FIVE BITS with others is fun, and honestly can result in lots of laughing and going off random tangents. I know this from lots and lots and lots of experience. This allows you to give the compliment for someone else to them. Giving compliments helps you and them feel great!
2: Write it down. Whether this be in a journal, social media post, notebook, or on your phone, writing it down can be powerful. Research has shown that the act of writing things down helps you to clarify your thoughts. (Exactly why I started blogging!) It also helps you to remember what to focus on. Writing your FIVE BITS down each day will allow you to go back and see the things that have made you happy in the past too, which is always fun. When giving your compliment to someone else, send them a text, email, or snapchat. Guaranteed it makes their night.
Overall, doing FIVE BITS truly brightens your day because it allows us to reflect and focus on the good, happy things. AND YES! You can come up with ONE compliment for yourself each day. I believe in you.
Let me know how you like it!!
